A photo from Sunday evening! This photo fell off the blog somehow. Here is our friend, Betsy, holding a kohlrabi (chou-rave) from her garden. Biologique! At the end of the day on Monday, we enjoyed eating this chou-rave in our salad.
Some photos of Betsy's beautiful house:
A pomegranate tree right outside her back door! Now, in April, the tree has blossoms and also some baby fruits.
In the background of the photo below, you can see the little casita where Anne Marie and Marie Therese are staying.
Here is the lily pond with water lilies:
After breakfast, we drove into the old section of Tucson where we found an excellent mural on the wall.
After cups of soup on the terrace of the Hotel Congress — sorry, no photo of the hotel — we drove out to the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum.
Because the Sonora Desert exists in both the United States and in Mexico, both countries have collaborated on the exhibits in this museum.
Below, you see the flags of The United States, the State of Arizona, and Mexico.
We walked here in this outdoor museums for over an hour and a half, learning about life in the desert.
We found the blooming cactuses especially wonderful.
We enjoyed a picnic lunch right next to the museum.
Next, we went to the Saguaro National Park, where we were amazed by a whole forest of saguaro cactus!
It was impossible to stop taking photos.
The photo below shows you how enormous these cacti are. This saguaro is probably one hundred years old.
It was exciting to see flowers on some saguaros. We saw very few of these, so when we saw one on the side of the road we had to take a picture. Look carefully and you will see flowers on the tops:
And ANOTHER saguaro with flowers!
When we returned to Betsy's house, Anne Marie and Marie Therese went swimming in Betsy's pool:
In the evening, Betsy's nephew, Benjamin, joined us for pizza and salad (with the kohlrabi.) We had a good time.
