Friday, April 17 — from El Paso to San Antonio!

Only 4 photos to show you; we spent the whole day on the road.

We left Callie’s house in El Paso shortly before 9:00 am, knowing it was already 10:00 in San Antonio! We drove East on Interstate Highway 10.

Our drive through southern Texas was surprisingly green! And we were delighted to have yet more views of mountains in the distance.

We stopped for our picnic lunch at a rest area along the highway.

As we neared San Antonio, we began to notice lovely blue lupines growing wild along the roadside.

In other places there were clusters of red-orange flowers alongside the blue, giving us a very pleasing palate of color. I think those red-orange flowers are called Scotch Bonnet.

We encountered cloudy skies and rain at the end of the afternoon.

And there was a traffic jam near San Antonio!

All the cars on the highway came to a standstill.  I thought there was probably an accident up ahead, but in fact it was a border patrol police car which had stopped another car.  All the drivers on the highway wanted to stop to take a look at the drama.  (There was nothing to see.)

Finally, around 7:00 pm, we reached the home of my friends, Bob and Henri O’Connor.

We had a fine dinner in a restaurant and were very happy to come back to their home to rest.  Thanks, Bob & Henri!

Tomorrow, Saturday, we will again be driving on Highway 10 all day, with New Orleans our destination.
